In order to achieve this, IMA has developed a designation program to recognize mortgage professionals who have attained the highest levels of industry expertise.

The Qualification Process

Qualification Process for becoming an Iowa Certified Mortgage Professional:

  1. Submit initial application with documentation of at least 75 points and $15 application fee.
  2. Committee will review application and determine acceptable points. (If application is not complete, committee will notify applicant of accepted points and what areas need additional points.)
  3. When application is complete and all points are accounted for, applicant is given two years to take and pass designation exam.
  4. Applicant will pay fee each time exam is taken.
  5. Once exam is passed, applicant will be awarded designation and will be charged a one time fee of $150.
  6. Every three years, designees will be required to obtain a minimum of 18 continuing education hours and submit a $150 renewal fee.

Requirements for ICMP Certification

To become Iowa Certified Mortgage Professional, the candidate must meet the following requirements:

  • Applicant must be a member of IMA.
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in mortgage finance or a related field.
  • Obtain a minimum of 75 evaluation points based on experience, education, other professional designations, continuing education activities; along with leadership and participation in the industry.
  • Take and pass the designation written examination within a 2 year time frame of qualifying for candidacy.
  • The requirements for the ICMP designation must be fulfilled within two years after being accepted
    for candidacy.
  • Maintain core competency within the industry by providing proof to IMA that required re-certification
    activities are accomplished within a 3 year time frame.

ICMP Renewal Process

The ICMP designee shall continue to participate in professional education to maintain a current status of the designation. Industry changes require that we continue to stay abreast of the current trends, law changes, and events that affect our industry.

As part of the ICMP designation each designee will be required to prove a minimum of 18 hours continued education. This will need to be completed within 3 years of receipt of designation. These credit hours will come from IMA approved educational activities; such as seminars, workshops, conferences, or independent study courses. The designee will be required to provide written notification to the Committee of attendance in order to maintain the designation in good standing.

  • Application Fee (non-refundable): $15
  • Written ICMP Examination Fee: $100
    Submitted at the time of exam registration
  • Designation Fee: $150
    (one time charge for 3 years)
  • Renewal Fee: $150
    (one time charge for 3 years)
